I'm exploring photonics as a path toward a future where humans, AI and machines can work together in a more organic way.

The long-term idea is to use light for more than forming an image. I want to explore how optics can become part of the way machines sense, direct attention, measure depth and guide themselves through the physical world.

I'm especially interested in nanophotonics, metamaterials and solid-state optical systems that could eventually steer or manipulate light without relying on bulky mechanical components. The goal is lighter, faster and more integrated perception systems for future robots, drones and autonomous machines.

The direction

Toward machines that perceive more naturally.

Instead of giving a machine a collection of sensors and asking software to process everything afterward, I'm interested in whether the optical system itself can become more selective: directing light, routing attention and changing what the machine observes according to what it needs to understand next.
